Self-care and maintaining health for counselors in emotionally challenging situations
The contribution examines the question of how counselors who deal with psychologically stressful contexts and client situations can protect themselves and set boundaries. To this end, theory-based input is provided and practical exercises are carried out. Among other things, the topic of self-care will be filled with content. Overall, this session unit is based on strand 5 of the MOOC 1 course series, which follows the hypothesis that improved counseling interaction promotes the health of both clients and counselors.

Counseling obese clients, and people with invisible health restrictions.
The comparison of the customer groups “people with a high weight” and “people with non-visible health problems” aims to show that there are few reflected attributions of what obese people supposedly suffer from and what strategies could provide relief. With the other group, on the other hand, the need for support can only be identified if sufficient trust can be built up and clients can be persuaded to share their needs – which would also be the right approach when dealing with obese people.

Tackling diversity to prepare and succeed in a mobility or expatriation project

Bénédicte Halba, doctor in Economics, is the founding president of the Iriv, an Institute tackling the many facets of Lifelong learning since 1997.

The session will firstly address the clichés & stereotypes suggesting a reflexive approach (critical thinking), then a cognitive approach – from personal experiences to rational explanations to build a fruitful strategy to avoid potential future issues (linked to diversity)…. The session will alternate speakers’ intervention and moments for Q&A from the participants. Following the 20-minute presentation by Bénédicte Halba, two French organisations (WTC and CMI in Rennes, Brittany) will join the panel for their expertise in supporting counsellors and their audience, professionals from abroad.

Nicholas Beaty (Multilingual Network Facilitator, International Corporate Consultant, Event Manager, Partnership Manager & Public Relations Specialist at the World Trade Center in Rennes, Bretagne, France), will explain the approach of “impatriation” – how to welcome and support professionals coming from abroad.

Baptiste Bourquardez (director of the the Center for International Mobility, CMI in Rennes, Bretagne, France, an organisation member of the EURAXESS network), will share the support provided by his Center (and his counsellors) to students/young professionals from abroad to succeed in their professional experience in France and eventually build up a sustainable future.

Daria Duhil de Bénazé specializes in Career Development at the CMI in Rennes. She will share her testing experience of the MOOCs and how this will enrich the support she provides to the audience of the CMI.

Intercultural Capacities Across Borders – Going Deeper

Kelsie Ann Kerwin is specialized in educative coaching and teaching, with many years of experience. She has degrees in international relations, entrepreneurship and leadership, and coaching. She works with ESMOVIA, giving professional trainings to educators, and working soft skills with young students.

Have you ever taken a minute to think about your soft skill capacity regarding other cultures? Have you wondered what you could be stronger at to improve your overall communication and comfort level within these abilities? In this discussion group we will be tackling the topic of necessary intercultural mobility skills, for both students and professionals alike, who find themselves in a different country working or living.

This is a very relevant topic in the 21st century, as it is almost impossible to not find oneself working in an intercultural experience at least once over the course of someone’s lifetime.
There will be an emphasis placed on practical strategies and take-aways; action steps that can be taken for each participant after having attended the discussion group. It should definitely be powerful!
